Hackettstown officer promoted to sergeant

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – The Hackettstown Police Department promoted officer Edward Blas to sergeant on Jan. 1 but due to COVID-19, the swearing-in ceremony didn’t happen until Thursday night at the town council meeting.

Edwards Blas started his career with the Essex County Police in 2005. He then joined the Harrison Police Department in 2006 and was then hired with the Hackettstown Police Department in May 2009.

Blas also served with the United States Marine Corps Golf Co. 2/25 from 2002-2008.

Blas stepped into the vacancy created by the retirement of Sgt. David Garzon, whose last day on the job was Dec. 31.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher.
