Hackettstown police recover vehicle stolen from Florida; woman charged

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Warren County woman is facing several charges after police say she was in possession of a stolen car.

On Feb. 11, at around 9:48 a.m., town police received information that a 2016 Mercedes-Benz parked in the parking lot of 616 Willow Grove St was possibly stolen, police said.

Through an investigation it was determined that the vehicle, which was being operated by Corine Smith, 39, of Allamuchy Township, was reported stolen from Orlando, Florida in 2017, police said.

Corine M. Smith, 39, of Allamuchy Township, NJ was charged on March 13 with unlawful possession of a motor vehicle with an altered or defaced vehicle identification number, possession/operating stolen vehicle, receiving stolen property, providing false bill of sale to law enforcement, providing false insurance card to law enforcement, removal of vehicle identification number from motor vehicle, failure to submit evidence of purchase to motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, no insurance on motor vehicle, and improper display of plate.

Smith was released pending a court appearance.
