Hackettstown Police: Tip jar thief arrested when she returns to scene of crime

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Warren County woman who allegedly stole a tip jar from a bagel shop in Hackettstown was arrested after she returned to the scene of the crime.

On December 2, at around 11:42 a.m., police responded to Hot Bagels Abroad, located at 150 Mountain Avenue, in reference to a woman who stole a tip jar containing money, police said.

Then on December 3, police received information that the suspect that stole the tip jar was in the bagel store purchasing food, police said.

Officers arrived on scene and the suspect was identified as Wanda E. Stevens, 71, of Allamuchy Township, NJ, police said.

Stevens was charged with theft and released pending a court appearance. Some of the money was recovered, police said.
