Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners attend library reveal of newly renovated spaces

FLEMINGTON, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the completed renovations at the Main Branch Hunterdon County Library, on Route 12, in Flemington, was held on Saturday, March 25.

The Hunterdon County Board of Commissioners were in attendance for the festivities, which included light refreshments and a guided tour of the newly refurbished spaces.

The library renovations reveal, coincided with the New Jersey Makers Day celebration, an allages event connecting individuals with libraries, schools, businesses, and independent makerspaces that support a wide range of learning.

James Keehbler, Hunterdon County Library Director said, “The Headquarters Library Renovation Reveal and New Jersey Makers Day event was a true community event. Residents of all-ages were able to see the newly renovated spaces and bring their creativity and curiosity to our New Jersey Makers Day activities. We believe our renovations have created the 21st century library Hunterdon County residents will enjoy. We encourage all residents to stop by the Headquarters Library and check the website for our exciting slate of upcoming programs.”

The newly renovated library boasts a state-of-the-art Makerspace with a computer training lab, redesigned Adult Services area, two collaborative Small Group Study rooms, Quiet Study space with high-speed Internet, Teen meeting space, and a redesigned Children’s play-zone complete with interactive exhibits.

Director Commissioner Zach Rich said, “Today is a special day, that marks an important milestone in the history of the Hunterdon County Library System. This renovation represents a new chapter in the delivery of library services that represent more than simply being a place where one can take out a book. The substantial investment that has been made in the Main Branch Library, will transform this facility into a place that meets today’s library users’ needs as well as space that can foster Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education with our local school systems.”

All construction was supported by funds received from the New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act and the Hunterdon Board of County Commissioners. The overall cost of the renovation totaled nearly $2 million dollars, with $980,837 coming from state library construction match grant funds.

The remaining funds came from the County budget and generous support from the Anneliese Stefani Bequest Fund.
