HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – The Administrator for Hunterdon County’s Board of Elections, Beth Thompson, was recognized with the New Jersey Association of Counties’ (NJAC) prestigious County Service Award for her service to county government, at the organization’s annual awards luncheon on May 5 in Atlantic City.
NJAC’s Executive Director John Donnadio, in presenting the award, said, “Each year NJAC recognizes those serving in county government who have gone above and beyond in support of county responsibilities and service to the public. It was as a result of Ms. Thompson’s hard work compiling comprehensive election data that NJAC was able to pursue state funding for the costs incurred by the counties for early voting last year. And she is most deserving of this recognition.”
Hunterdon County Clerk Mary H. Melfi, a Past President of NJAC, County Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren, 2nd Vice Present of NJAC, and County Commissioner Board Director John E. Lanza joined hundreds of other County officials from around the state in saluting Ms. Thompson’s deserved recognition at the event.
County Clerk Melfi said, “I congratulate Beth on receiving the NJAC County Service Award. I cannot think of a better election partner for the County Clerk’s office than Beth Thompson. Because of her knowledge, dedication, and efforts on not only NJAC’s behalf but for all the voters of Hunterdon County, having Beth leading the Board of Elections makes us all winners.”
Thompson, in accepting the award, told those in attendance, “I was honored to be asked to assist NJAC in developing information to convince the state to fund the costs of early voting and was glad that effort paid off. The whole early voting process was new last year and presented a great challenge for all Boards of Elections staff throughout the state, but we all successfully met that challenge. And now we are all preparing for early voting in the June 7th Primary Election.”
Board of Commissioners Director Lanza said, “Ms. Thompson’s recognition is well deserved. Hunterdon County is acknowledged statewide for excellence in election administration because of the work of our County Clerk Mary Melfi and Election Board Administrator Beth Thompson and their teams. All elected officials and candidates, as well as the voters, are fortunate to have these dedicated professionals working for them.”
