Hunterdon County Commissioner Soloway reads to students at Norwescap Early Childhood Center in honor of Read Across America Week
RINGOES, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Deputy Director Susan Soloway Monday visited the Norwescap Early Head Start Center in Ringoes to read a book to students in celebration of Read Across America Week.
Soloway enjoyed dancing and singing with pre-kindergarten children and read the story, “Old Hat New Hat”, by Stan and Jan Berenstain.
“I used to read this very book to my children when they were younger. Reading books is an amazing way to explore the world around you and learn new things,” Soloway said.
Read Across America Week is from March 2nd through the 6th, and it begins on the birthday of the beloved author and illustrator, Dr. Seuss. The entire month of March is generally dedicated to reading and educating people about the important benefits of learning from books, especially among children and young adults.
Soloway encouraged students to visit the local Hunterdon County libraries and get their own library card so that they could read as many books as possible.
She shared that library books are free to take home and encouraged students to visit the new makerspace youth play area in the Main Branch County Library and said, “I often visit the library and read books that allow me to use my imagination and promote creativity.”
Norwescap runs Head Start Centers in Hunterdon, Warren, and Sussex Counties. Head Start promotes early childhood education, health, nutrition, mental health, and social services for children and families. The program helps eligible children aged 3-5 years old prepare to succeed in school by promoting their development through services that support early learning, health, and family well-being.
