Hunterdon County Commissioner Van Doren celebrates Hobson Rodenbaugh’s 100th birthday
HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Hunterdon County Commissioner Shaun Van Doren joined with Hunterdon County Clerk Mary Melfi to help Hobson Ellis Rodenbaugh, affectionately known as “Hobby”, commemorate his 100th birthday on August 12.
The commissioner presented Mr. Rodenbaugh with a proclamation recognizing his years of service to the Country and the community, and on behalf of the Board, wished him much happiness and good health on his centennial celebration.
Hobson Rodenbaugh enlisted in the Army in 1942 at the onset of U.S. involvement in World War II and attended an Army electronics school. He was sent to the Pacific where he was in charge of a communications office responsible for phone installations and troubleshooting at locations in the Philippines and Japan.
Following his discharge from the Army, Hobson married his childhood sweetheart, Virginia Marie Wands, in 1946, and they became proud parents of two children. He joined the Masonic Lodge in 1947 and rose to ‘Master’ in 1960. Additionally, he served on the town council in Clinton and as Police Commissioner, all during his 37-year career with Western Union.
Hobson was a long-time member of the Union Township Senior Club of Hunterdon County, and for three decades served as Club President and alternated between first and second Vice President for many of those years.
“It is a great honor to recognize Mr. Rodenbaugh on this momentous birthday. We are indebted to him for his service to our Country and applaud his commitment to the community as an upstanding citizen, mentor, friend, husband, and father. Congratulations on reaching this impressive milestone!,” Van Doren said.
