Hunterdon County Commissioners announce food drive as part of National Canned Food Month

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – In recognition of National Canned Food Month, Hunterdon County employees have launched a canned food drive to collect needed items at various County-owned properties through Feb. 21.

Commissioner Director Zach Rich said, “Addressing hunger is important policy matter especially in light of rising food prices and the continual fallout from the pandemic and its disruption of global food supply chains. I am grateful for the staff for taking the initiative and organizing this important event.”

All items collected during the food drive will be donated to the Flemington Area Food Drive. Individuals looking to make a donation can find drop off boxes will be located the North Branch County Library (65 Halstead St, Clinton, NJ 08809); Main Branch Library (314 NJ-12, Flemington, NJ 08822); the Hunterdon County Administration Building (71 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822); and at Building #1 at the Route 12 Complex (314 NJ-12, Flemington, NJ 08822).

The Hunterdon County Commissioners have made significant investments in addressing hunger throughout the County including dedicating a significant amount of funds received from The American Rescue Plan toward this issue. This includes individual grant awards to both America’s Grow A Row for $144,000 and the Flemington Area Food Pantry for $77,851.

“The grant funds awarded to America’s Grow A Row and Flemington Area Food Pantry will increase the volume and availability of local grown fresh fruits and vegetables as well as help to support the infrastructure needed to meet increased demand.” Rich said.

  • Canned peaches
  • Yams (sweet potatoes)
  • Deodorant
  • Shampoo
  • Toothpaste
  • Grape jelly (plastic containers)
