Hunterdon County Commissioners Lanza presents proclamations at Crime Stoppers annual fundraiser

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Commissioner John Lanza on Wednesday attended the Crime Stoppers of Hunterdon County 2023 Fundraiser, at Copper Hill Country Club, in Raritan Township.

County Clerk, Mary Melfi was also at the event, which marked the 10th Annual Awards Celebration for Crime Stoppers – with a fun, “Roaring 20’s” theme.

Crime Stoppers is a vigilant community safety organization where people can anonymously share details and information concerning crimes. Informants receive a payout award for assisting in solving crimes within the community. As a non-profit organization, Crime Stoppers of Hunterdon County relies on the support of volunteers and the generosity of sponsors and individual donors.

This year’s distinguished honoree was Chris Phelan, President of the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce (HCCC), who was recognized for all he and his office do for the county’s small business sector, and for his role as a community leader and volunteer. Mr. Phelan has operated as president of the HCCC since 2008. Additionally, he serves as the Coordinator of Emergency Management for Raritan Township, is a lifetime member of the Flemington-Raritan First Aid & Rescue Squad, and most recently named Cub Master of the Year in 2023, for his years of dedication to Cub Scout Pack 61, in Flemington.

Commissioner John Lanza, liaison for the Department of Public Safety and OEM said, “I am proud to be here tonight to present proclamations to Chris Phelan in recognition of his dedication to the community, and to law enforcement officers for their commitment and contributions to keeping us safe. Crime Stoppers is an incredible organization that relies on the watchful eyes of residents, everyday people, and neighbors to play a key role in assisting law enforcement in arrests and convictions.”

The event recognized several members of law enforcement for their outstanding contributions to public safety within the county, among those honored were Clinton Township Police Department Detectives, Raritan Township Police Department Detectives, members of the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, and the staff of the Hunterdon County Communications Division.

“I would like to thank all the participants that contribute to the success of the Hunterdon County Crime Stoppers. The County Commissioners commend their dedication to go above and beyond to assist law enforcement members, sometimes putting themselves in harm’s way for the betterment of us all. Hunterdon County is rated one of the safest counties in the nation because of the collaboration and commitment by all those in this room this evening,” Lanza said.
