Hunterdon County hosts 2022 Senior Art Show award reception

Eighty Art Pieces Submitted, Seventeen First Place Winners Selected

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – The annual Senior Center Art Show award reception was held last month and was attended by artists and family members, Senior Center staff, according to Commissioner Shaun C. Van Doren, newly appointed Administrator Brad Myhre, and Commissioner Jeff Kuhl.

Commissioner Kuhl, the Board’s liaison for the Department of Human Services, which includes the Seniors Division, said, “I viewed the artwork put forward by the seniors who participated in the annual Senior Center Art show. The level of talent demonstrated by our seniors is quite amazing.”

A total of eighty pieces of art were submitted in various categories such as oil, mixed media, watercolors and sculpture, to name a few. Seventeen of those artists received a first-place award and will go on for consideration at the State of N.J. Senior Art Show.

“The Senior Center serves a tremendous purpose by providing a variety of activities for our seniors to stay active and healthy, and the annual art show is just one example of what is available to county seniors. The artwork will be on display for the public through July 29th and I encourage residents to stop by the Senior Center, located on Gauntt Place in Raritan Township, to view the exhibit,” Kuhl said.

The public can tour the art show at 4 Gauntt Place, Building #1, Flemington, by appointment Monday through Thursday or Fridays, no appointment necessary, after 12 noon. Please call 908-788-1361 to set up an appointment.

The show ends on July 29th at 12:00 p.m. The State Senior Art Show will be held from September 23 to October 27th at the Meadow Lakes Living Facility in Mercer County.

“The Senior Center staff are a dedicated group and the county’s seniors are lucky to have them, and all of the activities that are available,” Kuhl said.
