Hunterdon County man pleads guilty to sexual assault

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Readington Township man charged in February 2020 pleaded guilty this week to sexual assault, according to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée Robeson.

Jose E. Vasquez, 25, pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree sexual assault before Hunterdon County Superior Court Judge H. Matthew Curry on January 5, Robeson said.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, the state will recommend Vasquez be sentenced to 10 years in state prison. Due to the No Early Release Act, Vasquez will be required to serve 8 ½ years before being eligible for parole. Upon his release, Vasquez will be subject to parole supervision for life, Robeson said.

The guilty plea is a result of a joint investigation conducted by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office’s Special Victims Unit and Readington Township Police Department. Mr. Vasquez openly admitted in court to sexual contact with a child under the age of 13, Robeson said.

Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Daniels and Assistant Prosecutor Kyle Herda represented the state. Vasquez is scheduled to be sentenced on February 16, 2022.
