Hunterdon County Polytech students receive scholarships

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Hunterdon County Commissioner Shaun Van Doren recently presented scholarship awards to Nicholas Casalins and Nicholas Columbus, in the amount of $500 respectively, through the New Jersey Association of Counties (NJAC) 2023 Scholarship Foundation, in partnership with AT&T and SHI International Corporation.

Commissioner Van Doren, who also serves as 1st Vice President of NJAC, presented a proclamation and scholarship to each recipient and said, “It is an honor to present these students with scholarships in recognition of their dedication to academic excellence and distinguished scholastic achievements. On behalf of myself and the Board, I would like to congratulate each of these recipients for their hard work and wish them the best in all future endeavors and their continuing education.”

Nicolas Casalins, will be attending Raritan Valley Community College, to study Computer Science. He previously earned a bronze medal at the NJ skills USA Competition in Cybersecurity and is currently working towards IT certificates in A+, Network+, and Security+.

Nicholas Columbus, plans to attend the New Jersey Institute of Technology, to pursue studies in Computer Science. While in high school, he was involved in the video production department, a member of the National Honor Society, and Gaming Club.

NJAC is a non-partisan statewide organization that represents county governments. The group’s mission is to provide information on county government issues to the legislative and executive branches of state government, share knowledge between counties on effective and creative governing tools, enhancing the level of service provided to residents, and saving tax dollars.

Jay Edwards

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
