Commissioner Lanza Tours Mobile Command Unit at New Jersey Festival of Ballooning

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – Hunterdon County Commissioner and Public Safety Liaison John Lanza last month received a tour from Public Safety Director & Emergency Management Coordinator, Brayden Fahey of Hunterdon County’s incident command post Command 86.

It was stationed at the New Jersey Lottery Festival of Ballooning, at Solberg Airport in Readington Township.

Command 86 acts as a secondary communications center for the Department of Public Safety. The command post is housed within the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) mobile command vehicle, which provides workspace for incident and event personnel, technology needs, and brings the functionality of the 911 communications center into the field environment.

Command 86 is more than 20 years old and was the first of its kind in New Jersey. It has assisted in many local emergency situations including providing support to the New Jersey State Police and New Jersey National Guard at Liberty State Park during the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.

Additionally, it is used annually by county and municipal agencies across Hunterdon County for the response to emergencies and disasters, as well as the management of planned events in the community.

“Hunterdon County continues to be one of the safest places to live, and a large part of that is due to the training and preparedness of our first responders and their commendable service. Command 86, while very impressive in its functionality, is certainly showing its age and is in need of many updates. I want to thank Mr. Fahey, along with all the first responders who are here to keep attendees to the Balloon Festival safe during the festival,” Lanza said.

The Department of Public Safety along with the Unified Command staff from Readington Township emergency service agencies provided security Friday, July 28th through Sunday, July 30th at the Festival of Ballooning.

This festival is an annual event that features over 100 colorful balloons lifting off into the sky, live music, family entertainment, amusement rides, food, vendor attractions and
