I-287 northbound Exit 21A ramp to I-78 eastbound lane closure as ramp repair advances in Somerset County

Single lane to remain open on ramp

BEDMINSTER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials Monday announced that the I-287 northbound Exit 21A ramp to I-78 eastbound will have a single lane closure on the temporary ramp as repairs to the permanent ramp advance in Bedminster Township.

The I-287 northbound Exit 21A ramp to I-78 eastbound was closed in June 2022 because of a sinkhole in the right lane and shoulder. A temporary ramp with two lanes was constructed in July 2022 in order to reopen the exit.

On Friday, July 28, the I-287 northbound Exit 21A temporary ramp was closed during the day to reposition construction barrier. A single lane on the ramp was reopened Friday afternoon, with one lane remaining closed for a few weeks as sections of the reconstructed right lane and shoulder of the permanent ramp are completed and paved.

Motorists should slow down, use caution, and expect delays on I-287 northbound local lanes approaching Exit 21A to I-78 eastbound.

In the coming weeks drainage work and highway lighting relocation will require a closure and detour of the exit ramp. NJDOT will provide advanced notice before any closure.

Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website for construction updates and real-time travel information.
