Seven months after the Independence Township Committee suspended their Chief of Police, Keith Aiello, with pay, the township is taking action to stop paying the chief his salary.
At a regular township meeting on Tuesday, the committee resolved to memorialize their action to suspend the chief without pay, following their receipt of a report from the Warren County Prosecutor’s office that outlined several unidentified violation by Aiello opn February 9th and 10th. Mayor Bob Giordano voted with Committee members Bonnie Kelsey, Glenn Cougle, and Tim Norton in favor of the resolution; police department liaison, Mike Pennington, abstained from the vote.
On the advice of the township attorney, township officials declined to comment on the record, citing that Aiello was not served a Rice notice that his employment would be discussed in public. Aiello was not in attendance Tuesday night.
Aiello has until 12:30 PM on the 16th to contest the Committee’s decision.
