Juvenile charged for fake threat at Somerset County middle school
WARREN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – A juvenile was charged regarding a threat incident at Warren Middle School (WMS) in Warren Township last week, Warren Township Police Chief Robert Ferreiro said Tuesday.
On Friday, May 3, at 7:25 a.m., police were advised, by a WMS staff member, that the main office received a voicemail message from an individual threatening to blow up the school, Ferreiro said.
Warren Township Officers and officers from the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office and Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office K9 Units responded while the school immediately initiated their evacuation procedures. After an extensive search of the entire school, it was determined the threat was not credible, Ferreiro said.
Further investigation, by the Warren Township Police Detective Bureau, revealed the juvenile left the voicemail message in an attempt to have the school close for the day, Ferreiro said.
The juvenile was charged with third-degree false public alarms 3rd degree, Ferreiro said.
