Juvenile found dead inside home after house fire in Sussex County

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – An investigation is underway after a child was found dead inside a home following a fire in Franklin Borough, police said.

It happened on Friday night shortly after 10:00 p.m. at a residence on Nestor street. After extinguishing the fire, the body of a deceased juvenile was located in the home, police said.

“There is no current or ongoing hazard at the location; however, the incident is under investigation, and residents in the area of Nestor Street can expect a continued police presence at this time,” police said.

Fire departments from Franklin, Hardyston, and Hamburg, along with the Hardyston Police Department, Wallkill Valley First Aid Squad, and St. Clare’s BLS/ALS services, also responded to the scene, police said.

“The Franklin Police Department joins the EMS, Fire Services, and the community in expressing their sincerest condolences to the family and request that their privacy is respected during their time of loss and hardship. Please avoid this area if possible,” police said.
