
Kobalt cordless electric pole saws, chainsaws sold exclusively at Lowe’s recalled due to laceration hazard
Kobalt is recalling about 106,400 40-volt lithium ion 8-inch cordless electric pole saws and about 150,000 40-volt lithium Ion cordless electric chainsaws sold exclusively at Lowe’s stores due to a laceration hazard. They were distributed by Hongkong Sun Rise Trading.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the switch on the recalled pole saws can fail while under a heavy load, and cause the unit to continue running after the user releases the trigger, posing a laceration hazard to consumers. The chainsaw can remain in the “on” position, posing a laceration hazard to consumers.
This recall involves Kobalt brand 40-volt lithium ion 8-inch cordless electric pole saws manufactured from January 2017 through February 2019. Date codes from 01/01/17 to 02/28/19 are included in the recall. The item number and date code are printed on the side of the guide bar near the oil cap. Kobalt is printed on the side of the unit.

This recall involves Kobalt brand 40-volt lithium ion 12-inch cordless electric chainsaws. Date codes from 11/01/13 to 03/31/20 are included in the recall. The chain saws are blue and black. “Kobalt,” “40v max” and “12 in. 30 cm” are printed on the chain saw. The model number and date code are printed on the label located in the rear handle. The UPC is located on the box.

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled pole saws and chainsaws and contact Hongkong Sun Rise Trading for a free repair.
Hongkong Sun Rise Trading has received 65 reports of the saws continuing to run and 48 reports of the switch contacts welding causing the chainsaw to remain in the “on” position. No injuries have been reported.
They pole saws were sold at Lowe’s Stores nationwide and online at Lowes.com from March 2017 through October 2019 for about $180. The chainsaws were sold from from January 2014 through March 2020 for about $200.
