Long Valley accountant charged with theft by deception
LONG VALLEY, NJ (Morris County) – A Long Valley accountant has been charged for allegedly not filling a tax amendment after he was paid $3,100.00.
In July of 2021, Washington Township police detectives interviewed a victim who was reporting a theft, police said.
The victim had hired an accountant to file an amendment to his taxes. The victim provided the accountant with fees for this amendment in the amount of $3,100.00. The investigation revealed that the tax amendment had never been filed with the IRS, police said.
On August 12, the Washington Township Detective Bureau charged the Long Valley man with third-degree theft by deception for defrauding the victim out of $3,100.00, police said.
He was released pending a court appearance.
