Long Valley man charged with illegal possession of assault rifle

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Long Valley man was arrested and charged with illegal possession of an assault rifle, according to police.

Police received a report that a person within Washington Township was in possession of an illegal assault rifle, police said.

The Washington Township Detective Bureau completed a search warrant for the residence where the assault rifle was allegedly stored, police said.

Upon searching the residence and conducting interviews, it was revealed that the assault rifle had been broken down and pieces of the assault rifle were hidden in the residence and other pieces were hidden with family members, police said.

The full assault rifle was recovered and pieced back together, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was charged on September 8 with possession of an illegal assault rifle and released pending a court appearance, police said.
