Man accused of assaulting man, damaging his vehicle in Mansfield Township

MANSFIELD TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A 43-year-old Mansfield Township man was arrested and accused of assaulting another man and damaging his vehicle, according to Mansfield police.

On November 7, at 1:49 a.m., officers responded to a development on. the report of possible gunshots. The caller reported hearing a “pop pop pop,” police said.

When officers arrived, they found a male victim of an assault in the street with visible injuries to his face and body resulting from being punched by another male. The victim’s vehicle was also heavily damaged by the male jumping on the hood, ripping off the mirror and damaging other body panels, police said.

Police determined no firearms were involved and the popping sound was the male damaging the vehicle, police said.

The men were known to each other and the incident was the result of a dispute, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was charged with assault and criminal mischief. He was later released pending a court appearance. Hackettstown Police also assisted at the scene, police said.
