Man accused of shoplifting from Morris County Acme
DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man was arrested after he allegedly stole from the Acme Supermarket in Denville Township Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
On Nov. 7, at around 4:22 p.m., police responded to the Acme Supermarket on a report of a shoplifting. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the suspect had fled the area, police said.
After a brief search of the surrounding area, the suspect, who was later identified as Evangelos Moutafis, 43, of Morristown, was located at the Denville Train Station, police said.
Moutafis was arrested after he was found to be in possession of merchandise stolen from the Acme Supermarket, as well as drug paraphernalia, police said.
Moutafis was charged with shoplifting and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on his own recognizance pending a court appearance, police said.
However, as Moutafis also had an active warrant for his arrest from the Wharton Borough Municipal Court and was unable to post bail. He was then turned over to the Wharton Borough Police Department upon his release from headquarters, police said.
