Man arrested after fleeing from police in Readington Township

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Union County man is facing charges after running from officers Thursday morning in Readington Township.

Erik Diaz, 40, of Linden was charged with second-degree eluding, third-degree hindering apprehension, fourth-degree resisting arrest (by flight), and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

On Feb. 20, at around 2:41 a.m., an officer attempted to stop Diaz on Casper Berger Road after observing his vehicle traveling on west on Readington Road, police said.

Diaz disregarded the signal to stop and accelerated, struck a curb, traveled across a lawn and came to rest in the woods.

Diaz fled the scene however he was later found exiting the woods on Heath Road after a search that lasted approximately five hours and involved officers and K-9’s from several jurisdictions as well as the New Jersey State Police Aviation Unit.

Diaz was lodged in the Warren County Jail to await a detention hearing.
