Man arrested in Byram Township for terroristic threats, DWI, other charges
BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A man is facing several charges including terroristic threats, and driving while intoxicated in Byram Township.
On May 27, an officer responded to QuickChek for a report of a man who may have been under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance. The man left before police arrived, but officers then observed his vehicle traveling on Route 206, police said.
The officer stopped the vehicle and during the stop, officers felt the driver, who was identified as William R. Stevenfield, was intoxicated or under the influence. He performed several field sobriety tests, which he failed, police said.
Stevenfield was arrested and during the process he made threatening statements to the officers, police said.
Stevenfield was charged with terroristic threats, possession of drug paraphernalia, under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, driving while intoxicated, driving with a suspended driver’s license, unlicensed driver, failure to possess a driver’s license, speeding, failure to maintain lane, failure to keep right, careless driving, and reckless driving.
He was then turned over the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office who transported him to the Morris County Correctional Facility, police said.
