
Man charged after failing to scan items in self-checkout at Sussex County ShopRite
BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man was charged after he allegedly failed to scan several items in the self-checkout lane at the Byram Township ShopRite, police said.
On June 2, police responded to Shoprite of Byram for a report of shoplifting. Officers then spoke with ShopRite security who stated that on May 21, 24, 27, 30, and June 1, security observed a male, later identified as Philip Terra, 31, of Byram Township, at the self-checkout (SCO) area with a shopping cart full of merchandise, police said.
Terra walked up to a SCO register and began scanning his merchandise. While scanning the merchandise, the security guard observed Terra fail to scan multiple items and then exited the store without paying, police said.
Terra was arrested and charged with three counts of shoplifting. He was released pending a court appearance.
Terra was subsequently banned from all 8 Ronetco ShopRite locations, police said.
