Man charged after leading state troopers on pursuit in Morris County

MORRIS COUNTY, NJ – An Essex County man is facing several charges after leading state police on a pursuit in Morris County early Sunday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Alejandro Goez.

On July 26, at 6:03 a.m., troopers attempted to stop a Volkswagen Passat for a traffic violation on Interstate 80 westbound at milepost 39 in Denville Township, Goez said.

The vehicle failed to stop and troopers, using lights and sirens, pursued the vehicle, Goez said.

The driver got off exit 35 and the troopers continued to follow and a short time later, the pursuit was terminated in Rockaway Township, state police said.

While searching the area, troopers along with officers from the Rockaway Township Police Department located the vehicle and the driver, state police said.

The driver, who was identified as Akhil Louis-Jeane, 19, of Irvington, NJ, was arrested and charged with eluding, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving while intoxicated, Goez said.
