
Man charged in fatal stabbing at Greystone Psychiatric Hospital
PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, NJ (Morris County) – A resident of Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital has been charged after a person was fatally stabbed at the hospital on New Year’s Eve, according to Morris County Prosecutor Fredric Knapp.
Rashid Davis, 28, has been charged with first-degree murder, third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
On Dec. 31, Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital staff contacted law enforcement regarding a death at the hospital, Knapp said.
It’s alleged that hospital staff encountered Davis in a hallway with blood on his hand. Staff subsequently located the victim in Davis’ room lying on the floor in a pool of blood, Knapp said.
“The cause of death was determined to be multiple stab wounds to the neck area and manner of death is homicide. The investigation remains ongoing and the identity of the deceased individual will not be released at this time,” Knapp said.
Davis remains in custody and is pending a first appearance before a judge of the superior court, Knapp said.
