READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A New York man has been arrested after a road rage shooting incident earlier this month on Interstate 78 in Readington Township, according to Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson.

On Dec. 15, at around 3:00 p.m., a road rage incident involving a tractor- trailer and a pickup truck occurred on Interstate 78 in Readington Township, Robeson said.

Both vehicles were traveling eastbound on I-78 when the driver of the pickup truck allegedly fired a 9 mm handgun at the tractor-trailer, striking the engine compartment.

The tractor-trailer became disabled and pulled to the shoulder of the roadway and notified the police. The unidentified driver in the pickup departed the scene, traveling eastbound.

An investigation by members of the NJ State Police Perryville Barracks and State Police Troop B Criminal Investigations Office identified the driver of the pickup truck as Collen M. Brown, 25, of Jamaica, Robeson said.

Brown was charged with second-degree possession of a handgun without having first obtaining a permit to carry, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, third-degree aggravated assault by attempting to cause bodily harm, and fourth-degree aggravated assault by knowingly pointing a firearm.

Second-degree charges may result in criminal penalties, including, but not limited to, a term of imprisonment between five and ten years and a fine not to exceed $150,000.00. Third-degree charges may result in criminal penalties, including, but not limited to, a term of imprisonment between three and five years and a fine not to exceed $15,000.00. Fourth-degree charges may result in criminal penalties, including, but not limited to, a term of imprisonment of up to 18 months and a fine not to exceed $10,000.00.
