Man charged with assault after incident at Readington Township motel

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A man faces an assault charge after an incident at a motel in Readington Township, according to police.

On Sunday, Oct. 4, at around 4:34 p.m., officers responded to the Siesta Motel located on Route 22 for a report of an assault. When officers arrived, it was determined that two of the hotel guests were involved in a verbal argument outside their rooms, police said.

Zachary Welz, 22, allegedly struck a 61-year-old man several times in the face with his fist. It was unknown why the two began arguing, police said.

Welz was charged with simple assault and later released pending a court appearance, police said.
