Man charged with driving under influence of marijuana
LOPATCONG TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – A New York man has been charged with driving while under the influence of marijuana following a traffic stop Thursday night.
On Jan. 14, at around 11:10 p.m., Lopatcong Township police stopped a vehicle on Route 22 west in Phillipsburg after an officer observed the vehicle travel through a red traffic signal, police said.
Upon stopping the vehicle, the driver was identified as Mark A. Wahila, 20, of Endicott, NY and while speaking with him, the officer believed he may be under the influence of marijuana, police said.
Wahila failed several field sobriety tests at the scene and was subsequently taken into custody for driving under the influence. While at Lopatcong Police Headquarters, Wahila was determined to be under the influence of marijuana after being evaluated by a Drug Recognition Expert, police said.
Wahila was charged with driving under the influence and failure to observe a traffic signal. He was released pending a court appearance.
