Man charged with DWI after crashing into pillar in QuickChek parking lot in Sussex County

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated after crashing into a pillar in the Byram Township QuickChek parking lot and then leaving the scene, according to police.

On March 24, police responded to QuickChek for a report of a man who crashed into a pillar in the parking lot and was unconscious behind the steering wheel. When officers arrived, the vehicle had left the scene, police said.

Officers then located the vehicle at a residence and spoke to the driver, who was identified as Michael Stellatella of Byram Township, and while speaking to Stellatella, officers felt he may be intoxicated, police said.

Stellatella performed several field sobriety tests, which he failed, police said.

Stellatella was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to report a motor vehicle accident, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident, careless driving and reckless driving.
