
Man charged with DWI, failure to pull over for emergency vehicle in Mount Olive Twp
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Budd Lake man is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated and failure to pull over for an emergency vehicle in Mount Olive Township.
On Oct. 30, at 9:23 p.m., a township officer was patrolling on Route 46 when the officer observed a Subaru at the intersection of Route 46 and Woodsedge Avenue without its running lights on, police said.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle on Route 46, however, the driver allegedly did not stop until he was on Wolfe Road at Vasa Park, police said.
The officer then came in contact with the driver, who was identified as 34-year-old Jose A. Goncalves-Caldas, and allegedly detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage. He also allegedly showed obvious signs of impairment due to alcohol, police said.
Goncalves-Caldas was asked to exit the vehicle to perform standardized field sobriety tests. upon completion of the investigation, he was arrested and was transported to police headquarters, where he submitted to chemical breath testing, police said.
Goncalves-Caldas was charged with DWI, reckless driving, failure to pull over for emergency vehicle, failure to use lighted lamps when required, and failure to maintain a lane. He was released to a sober driver, pending a court appearance.
