Man charged with DWI following crash in Morris County

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man is facing charges including driving while intoxicated Friday following a motor vehicle crash in Denville Township.

On Oct. 17, at around 2:33 p.m., police responded to the area of Route 10 for a report of a vehicle striking the center median and then fleeing the area, police said.

The vehicle was subsequently located and stopped on South Salem Street. During the course of the stop, it was determined that the driver, Eugene Piekarz, 64, of Dover was allegedly operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcoholic beverages, police said.

Piekarz was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to report an accident, leaving the scene of an accident, and possession of an open container of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle. He was released pending a court appearance.
