Man charged with DWI, leaving the scene after Hunterdon County crash

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A Somerset County man is facing several charges including driving while intoxicated after he crashed his vehicle and then fled on foot early Saturday morning in Readington Township, police said.

On August 7, at 1:16 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle accident on Route 22 near Mountain Road.  While officers were responding, they were alerted by a passerby that the driver was seen running from the accident scene, police said.

The driver was located nearby and identified as Eric Specht of Branchburg Township. He displayed indicators of intoxication and subsequently failed sobriety tests, police said.

Specht was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident. He was released to a family member pending a court appearance, police said.
