Man charged with eluding Hackettstown police

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – A Mansfield Township man was charged with eluding officers trying to stop him in Hackettstown Wednesday night, police said.

Anthony Hernandez, 18, was charged with third-degree eluding, obstructing the administration of law, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to give proper signal, failure to provide insurance car, and having no driver’s license.

At around 9:50 p.m., a Hackettstown police officer attempted to stop a 2001 Saturn on College view Dr for a moving violation, police said.

The vehicle then fled from the officer and traveled through the College View development. The vehicle then exited the development and traveled south on Grand Ave towards Mansfield Township, police said.

The vehicle then crashed at the intersection of Allen Rd and Rockport Rd in Mansfield Township. Hernandez fled the scene and after a brief chase, he was apprehended, police said.

Hernandez was released pending a court appearance.
