ANDOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A New York man was charged this week following an investigation into a stolen boat and trailer that occurred on May 27, police said.
Kevin A Unrein, 25, of Nesconsent, was charged with theft and criminal trespass.
According to police, the victim reported that on May 27, a 12 foot aluminum boat and trailer were stolen from his property on Bernard Drive. The victim provided video footage of the suspect vehicle with the boat to tow to officers.
The Sparta Township Police Department had contact with Unrein on the date of the theft and had arrested him for unrelated charges. Due to the previous contact by Sparta Police, they were able to identify the suspect vehicle and contacted the Andover Township Police Department Detective Bureau, police said.
A follow-up investigation was conducted and the Suffolk County Police Department responded to Unrein’s residence and located his vehicle which was depicted in the video along with the boat and trailer, police said.
Unrein was later taken into custody and charged by the Suffolk County Police Department for receiving stolen property, police said.
Unrein was then charged by Andover police and released pending a court appearance, police said.
The Andover Township Police Department recovered the boat and trailer from Suffolk County, police said.
