Man faces carjacking, robbery charges in Byram Twp.

BYRAM TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A man was arrested on Monday and faces multiple charges in Byram Township.

Albert Hutchinson, 18, was charged with first-degree carjacking, second-degree robbery and third-degree motor vehicle theft.

On April, 15, at around 11:51 a.m., officers responded to Waterloo Road for a reported disturbance, police said.

Upon arrival, officers contacted a resident of Waterloo Road who stated that Hutchinson had allegedly attempted to steal her vehicle from her driveway.

The victim stated she had left her running vehicle unattended in her driveway and crossed the street to check her mail, when she heard the engine of her vehicle revving and observed Hutchinson in the driver seat, police said.

The victim confronted Hutchinson, who then abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot towards Route 206, police said.

Byram Police were then responded to another attempted vehicle theft in progress in the parking lot of a Route 206 business. Officers responded and located Hutchinson and a second victim inside a local business, police said.

Police determined that Hutchinson had allegedly accosted the second victim in the parking lot of the business shortly after he parked. Hutchinson demanded the keys to the vehicle and the victim fled into the business, police said.

Hutchinson then pursued the victim into the business and physically threatened him several times while continuing to demand the keys to the vehicle, police said.

Hutchinson was arrested and lodged in the Sussex County Jail.
