Man flees on foot after traffic stop in Newton

NEWTON,NJ (Sussex County) – A traffic stop ended with a man’s arrest after he fled police on foot on Monday evening, according to Newton Police Lieutenant John Osborn.

Torey Posey, 40, of Monroe, PA was charged with obstruction, resisting arrest and driving while suspended.

On May 20 at 9:05 p.m., a town officer stopped a 2003 White Cadillac in the area of the Gateway Apartments on Sparta Avenue in which the operator of the vehicle, who was later identifed as Posey, was confirmed to have a suspended driver’s license, Osborn said.

Upon being stopped, Posey exited the vehicle and fled on foot.  After a brief foot pursuit, he was apprehended after he was found hiding in a bush on the Gateway property, Osborn said.

Posey was released pending a court appearance on June 11.
