Man pleads guilty to unlawful possession of a knife for unlawful purpose

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man has entered a guilty plea to possession of a knife for unlawful purpose, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.

Bryan Schmidt, 44, of Newton pled guilty to third-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose on Dec. 20 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Taggart said.

Schmidt admitted to being in the possession of a knife with the intent to use the knife on the victim, Taggart said.

Sentencing is scheduled for January 19, Taggart said.

Schmidt was represented by Matthew Young, and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
