Man sentenced for contempt, resisting arrest, simple assault in Sussex County

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man was sentenced for contempt of a judicial/restraining order, resisting arrest, simple assault in Sussex Borough, according to Sussex County Prosecutor Francis Koch.

Mark A. Conklin, 31, of Sussex was sentenced on June 3 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Koch said.

Conklin was sentenced to three years probation, 180 days in the Morris County Correctional Facility, pay fines and fees, comply with DCP&P and Family Court Orders, continue all mental health and substance abuse treatment, attend and complete the DECIDE program and have no contact with the victim except for limited issues with the approval of DCP&P for one count of resisting arrest and one count of simple assault stemming from an incident in December of 2021 in Sussex Borough as well as one count of contempt of a judicial/restraining order and one count of simple assault stemming from an incident in January of 2022 in Sussex Borough, Koch said.

Conklin pled guilty on April 26 to fourth-degree contempt of a judicial/restraining order, resisting arrest, and two counts of simple assault, Koch said.

Defendant was represented by Matthew W. Young, Esq. and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Laura Nazzaro.
