Man sentenced for eluding police in Sussex County

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A New York man has been sentenced for eluding police in Sparta Township, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Annmarie Taggart.

Karimov, 25, of Brooklyn was sentenced on July 13 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on July 13, Taggart said.

Karimov was sentenced to 364 days in Morris County Correctional Facility and 3 years’ probation. In addition, he will do community service 5 days after release, a 2 year driver license suspension effective upon release, and forfeit of motorcycle, and pay fines and fees.

Karimov pled guilty on May 22 to third-degree to eluding. In pleading guilty, he admitted that on June 16, 2021 in Sparta Township, while operating a motor vehicle on a street or highway, did knowingly attempt to elude the Sparta Township police after having received a signal to stop. He also admitted that at the time of eluding he was driving recklessly and had no insurance for the motorcycle, Taggart said.

Karimov was represented by Igor Niman, Esq., and the State was represented by Acting Assistant Prosecutor Brent M. Rafuse.
