Man sentenced to probation for possession of fentanyl in Sussex County

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A New York man was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to fentanyl possession, according to Sussex County Prosecutor Francis Koch.

George Handelong, 43, of Port Jervis was sentenced before the Honorable Louis S. Sceusi, J.S.C., at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on May 20, Koch said.

Handelong was sentenced to two years of probation, ordered to submit to a TASC evaluation and follow any and all recommendations made from same, continue treatment, perform thirty days of community service work and pay fines and fees totaling $1,205.00. He was given five days of jail credit, Koch said.

Handelong pled guilty on April 14, to third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance. He was in possession of fentanyl in Franklin on October 15, 2020, Koch said.

Handelong was represented by William Oake, Esq., and the State was represented by Assistant Prosecutor Donald F. Cox, Jr.
