Man sentenced to probation for possession of heroin

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Pennsylvania man was sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to heroin possession, according to Sussex County Prosecutor Francis Koch.

Matthew J. Drinko, 28, of Ashley was sentenced before the Honorable Louis S. Sceusi, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton on June 25, Koch said.

Drinko was sentenced to two years probation, must continue drug treatment, pay mandatory fines and fees, Koch said.

Drinko pled guilty on April 23 to one count of third-degree possession of heroin, Koch said.

On Oct. 7, 2019 New Jersey state police were on routine patrol in the Shop-Rite Parking Lot in Montague. Drinko was a passenger in a parked car that was approached by state police in order to speak to the driver. He was observed walking away from the car and throwing a cigarette box under a parked car. The cigarette box was retrieved and heroin was located within, Koch said.
