Man spits on officer following arrest in Sparta Twp.

SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sparta man is facing several charges following an incident at a bowling alley in Sparta Township Thursday night.

William Hagany, 26, was charged with disorderly conduct, throwing a bodily fluid on a law enforcement officer and obstruction (refusing to provide fingerprints).

On April 25 at around 8:00 p.m., officers responded to Sparta Lanes, located at 43 Center St, for a report of a disorderly intoxicated patron, Sparta Township Police Lieutenant John Lamon said.

Upon officers arrival, they encountered Hagany who was allegedly yelling profanities at the other patrons and refused to obey commands from officer Taylor May and other officers, Lamon said.

While attempting to secure Hagany in the rear seat of the patrol car after being arrested for disorderly conduct, he allegedly spat on officer Matt Pletcher, Lamon said.

Hagany was released to his father pending a court appearance, Lamon said.
