Man wanted out of Florida arrested after traffic stop in Sussex County

FRANKLIN BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – A Passaic County man wanted out of Florida was arrested by Franklin Borough police after a traffic stop last month, according to police.

On June 22, officers stopped Luis F. Vargas, 38, of Paterson and he initially provided officers with a fictitious name and presented a photograph of a fraudulent driver’s license, police said.

After a further investigation, Vargas admitted his true identity to the officers, at which time he was found to have a nationwide extradition warrant out of Florida, police said.

Vargas was taken into custody and charged with obstruction of justice and fourth-degree hindering apprehension, police said.

He was then transported to the custody of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department and lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility to await extradition proceedings and transfer to the custody of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office in Fort Lauderdale, police said.
