Mom accused of leaving toddler alone in unlocked, running car

HANOVER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Sussex County mom is accused of leaving her toddler in an unlocked car with the engine running while she went into a clothing store, police say.

A township officer responded on Aug. 17 to the parking lot of 110 East Hanover Avenue for a report of a child left unattended in a vehicle by the Old Navy store, police said.

Upon arrival, the officer located the vehicle and observed an unattended toddler in the vehicle that was running and unlocked, police said.

A short time later, the child’s mother, who was identified as Shadae Manson, 26, of Hamburg, walked to the vehicle and allegedly told the officer she just ran into the Old Navy for a minute and was coming right back, police said.

Manson was charged with child neglect and was released pending a court appearance.
