Morris County man killed in crash on Garden State Parkway

CLIFTON, NJ (Passaic County) – A Chester man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Friday night on the Garden State Parkway in Clifton, New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Philip Curry said.

It happened at 10:11 p.m. on the Garden State Parkway southbound at milepost 156.1 at the entrance to the main line from Route 19 southbound in Clifton, Curry said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that an Infinity QX50, driven by Conor Gaul, 29, ran off the road to the right on the ramp and hit a marker sign and the guardrail. The vehicle then entered the main line southbound and ran off the road to the left impacting the guardrail before travelling back across the lanes and running off the road to the right and impacting the concrete barrier, Curry said.

Gaul was pronounced dead. The road and the ramp were shut down for about 2.5 hours, Curry said.

The crash remains under investigation, Curry said.
