Morris County man with handgun assaults police officers during DWI arrest, cops say
DOVER, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man is facing a slew of charges following a DWI arrest in Dover Tuesday night, according to police.
On Aug 22, at around 11:00 p.m., an officer was in the area of Dickerson Street and conducted a motor vehicle stop on a Honda Accord after observing multiple traffic violations. The driver allegedly initially provided false identifying information but was later identified as a 23-year-old Roxbury Township man, police said.
He was found to have an active warrant and was suspected to be operating the vehicle under the influence. A Glock handgun, containing a loaded magazine and other items were located in the driver’s possession, police said.
While being placed under arrest, he allegedly resisted arrest causing minor injury to two Dover police officers and property damage, police said.
Following his arrest, he was processed where he continued to be combative and cause additional property damage to the Dover Police processing room, police said.
He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon without a permit, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, prohibited weapons and devices – large capacity magazine, resisting arrest, two counts of aggravated assault on law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, throwing bodily fluid at a law enforcement officer, hindering apprehension, obstruction administration of law, driving while intoxicated and multiple other traffic offenses.
He was then lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility.
