Morris County Prosecutor swears in new staff

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll and First Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood announce the hiring of Jennifer Virella as Assistant Prosecutor for the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Assistant Prosecutor Virella was officially sworn in at the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Detective on July 6, 2021. She has been assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit.

Assistant Prosecutor Virella previously served as assistant corporation counsel and assistant municipal prosecutor for the City of Newark, an assistant prosecutor for the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and associate attorney for the Newark Housing Authority. Also during her career, she’s held positions as personal assistant to a State Senator, judicial law clerk for the Superior Court of New Jersey Chancery Division, Family Part, and as a research assistant, judicial intern and summer associate.

Assistant Prosecutor Virella holds a B.A. from Fordham University and a juris doctorate from Rutgers University School of Law.

“I welcome Assistant Prosecutor Virella and am excited to have her join our team of Assistant Prosecutors here at the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office. I’m confident that she will serve honorably,” Carroll said.

Born and raised in Northwest NJ, Jay has a degree in Communications and has had a life-long interest in local radio and various styles of music. Jay has held numerous jobs over the years such as stunt car driver, bartender, voice-over artist, traffic reporter (award winning), NY Yankee maintenance crewmember and peanut farm worker. His hobbies include mountain climbing, snowmobiling, cooking, performing stand-up comedy and he is an avid squirrel watcher. Jay has been a guest on America’s Morning Headquarters,program on The Weather Channel, and was interviewed by Sam Champion.
