Morris County Prosecutor’s Office partners with Deirdre’s House for internet safety presentation

MORRISTOWN, NJ (Morris County) – Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sergeant Spence Osaigbovo, and Deirdre’s House Executive Director Maria Vinci-Savettiere, Esq., partnered Thursday during presentations at the Frelinghuysen Middle School in Morristown.

There were four separate presentations, three presentations for over 1100 sixth through eighth grade students, and the other during the evening hours for parents.

Sgt. Osaigbovo, a supervisor in the Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit that oversees the ICAC (Internet Crimes Against Children) Unit, gave a presentation on Internet Safety, and discussed child victimization on the internet and provided preventative safety measures.

Executive Director Vinci-Savettiere of Deirdre’s House, the center in Morris County for child victims of abuse and/or neglect, gave a presentation on cyberbullying and the associated harms caused by such conduct.  Although many aspects were discussed during these comprehensive presentations, the overall crucial message was the importance of maintaining an open dialogue between parents and children regarding internet safety.

Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll stated, “With the many benefits that the internet brings to our world, there is also a dark side, one where predators and those with intentions to harm others are present. Consequently, just like we protect our children as much as possible when physically out in public, it is essential that the same holds true in the cyberworld.”
